The Orangutans of Tanjung Puting National Park

Gliding through the kumai river of the Central Kalimantan, this trip will take you to visit Kalimantan’s Tanjung Puting Wildlife Reserve.

It was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and is inhabited by over 38 species of mammals and 200 species of birds. This place is also a sanctuary for critically endangered orangutans, and our tours will visit two of three different camps where rescued orangutans are fed and rehabilitated.

Join us for this small group tour and contribute to Orang Utans' rehabilitation program of Tanjung Putting Wildlife Reserve!

DAY 01

Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun you will be escorted to Kumai, to the Kelotok pier.

Sail to the Sekonyer River, an estuary habitat with unique vegetation called mangroves. You can also

see wild animals such as the endemic proboscis monkey of Borneo, and other animals.

We will also see the traditional houses of the local community at Balimbiang village.

Sleep on a boat at night and see swarm of fireflies in contrast with the pitch dark jungle backgrounds.

DAY 02

Continue our ride on a riverside boat through the tea-colored waters where we might  see crocodiles and other wildlife

attractions on our journey to Camp Leakey, the legendary Orangutan Rehabilitation Camp, where Prof. Birute MF. Galdikas began her studies in early 1971.

At Camp Leakey, we will spend the rest of the day trekking through the rainforests of Borneo, and see the Orangutans

DAY 03

We will visit another Orang Utans' rehabilitation camp called Pondok Tangui  to see more orangutans.

Contributing in preserving the rainforest of Kalimantan island, we will plant a tree per person as a way to offset our carbon footprints of our flights and transportation to reach this national park

We will continue our journey and enjoy the afternoon breeze while watching a herd of proboscis monkeys from the river bank. We will stay overnight on the boat and have dinner while seeing the lights emanating from thousands of fireflies

DAY 04

We will trek from Tanjung Harapan to Sungai Buluh to explore our surroundings to see more wildlife. For those of you who enjoys canoeing, there is an option to explore the area further on a canoe then back to the houseboat.

Back to Pangkalan Bun
